SVCD-HOWTO for Linux

Introduction

These pages describe my experiences with creating SVCDs for playback with a stand-alone SVCD player (many DVD players also support SVCD playback). My main source of MPEG files is my Siemens DVB-C card, but I have also created a slideshow from pictures taken during my last holiday. Recently I have created some SVCDs with MPEG-2 multichannel tracks.

Accordingly, the info is split into the following sections:

• HOWTO transcode DVB-C/DVB-S recordings into SVCD-compatible program streams.
• HOWTO create an SVCD with MPEG-1 layer 2 multichannel (3/2.1 channels) sound.
• HOWTO create a slideshow from still pictures.
• HOWTO write the resulting SVCD-compliant stream to CD-R/CD-RW.
